Eastern India’s monsoon fills lanes in Kolkata, courtyards in Howrah, and low houses in the districts. Then the fevers start. Families search for home care because the hospital bench is wet and the wait is long.
Dengue, viral fever, and monsoon stomach illness are not the same. Home care can help the mild days. It cannot guess a dropping platelet count from the sofa.
What is reasonable at home
Rest, fluids the doctor already allowed, a nurse to check pulse and pressure, and a blood test at home when standing in a collection centre feels worse than the fever. A doctor home visit helps when the parent is too weak for the OPD but still drinking and passing urine.
Keep mosquitoes down. Empty the pot under the fridge. This is ordinary West Bengal advice and still the advice that matters in Salt Lake, Behala, and Siliguri.
Warning signs that end the home plan
Severe belly pain, bleeding from gums or skin, repeated vomiting, breathlessness, extreme sleepiness, or no urine. Those signs need a hospital in Kolkata or the nearest district emergency, not another attendant hour.

After the fever
Weakness stays. Elders fall on wet stairs. That is when short nursing at home or help with walking matters more than another course of random tablets.
